Intaglio is a type of printmaking technique in which images are incised onto a surface that is typically zinc or copper. Multiple prints can be pulled off the matrix printing surface. The following print is produced on a zinc plate and is a mezzotint. Mezzotints are a reductive process in which a tool called a rocker is used to form burs in the metal allowing the plate to hold ink on the surface. The plate was rocked for 7+ hours by hand to create a rich velvety black and burnished to create the final image. The plate is then printed by pushing ink across the plate and wiping the plate with tarlatan. Due to the pressure at which it is printed plate marks are visible on the paper.
All pieces pulled from the plate are considered original. These are NOT digital reproductions.
All prints are shipped by USPS.
